On 19th and 28th April 2023, the SLEs team conducted workshops for teachers at the Future Classroom Lab located in the EUN office in Brussels.
The theme of the workshop on 19th April was Imagination and Creativity in the World – Where STEM meets Arts during which the teachers were encouraged to design their own open schooling environments by integrating STEM education and the arts. The workshop on 28th April revolved around Innovative Practices for Engaging STEM Teaching where teachers imagined new ways to integrate STEM and open schooling.
During both the workshops, teachers worked in groups to design their own ST(E)AM Learning Ecologies with the aim to solve a real-life problem in their community. They imagined and designed creative open schooling environments by bringing together various stakeholders, multiple school subjects and learning activities. Groups presented their ideas in various formats such as illustrations and mind-maps on paper and on their laptops using PowerPoint slides.
Overall, the workshops were hands-on and encouraged teachers to be imaginative and work collaboratively. The teachers also reflected on the challenges of open schooling in their respective communities and the practicalities of implementing their ideas. The workshops were also an opportunity for the SLEs team to share the objectives of the SLEs project and invite the teachers to participate in future events, pilots and seminars.
